About Me
Long Term Storage Success

After spending years trying to find a great job, I was finally offered the gig of my dreams. It felt like I was walking on a cloud, until they told me that I would have to relocate to halfway around the world. I was really frustrated, so I decided that it might be best to see about renting a long term storage facility. I didn't want to risk dealing with problems stemming from leaving belongings with a friend or family member, so I worked hard to find an excellent storage facility that would work well. I was able to find a facility that offered long-term units, and they really seemed to understand my needs. This blog is all about storing successfully for as long as you need to.

How To Make Your Long-Distance Move Seamless

Andy Lopez

Moving to a different state can open new opportunities for your family. You just need to find a good apartment and plan your move. But how do you make such a long-distance move seamless? Well, here are some helpful tips you could use.

Plan Early

Unlike other moves, you must start planning early for a long-distance move. You wouldn't want to rush at the last minute because that might complicate your move. Ideally, you should start planning a few months ahead. And once you have already found an apartment to rent, you should intensify your preparations.

Know when you will move into the new house, when to start packing, and whether you will need storage.

Pack Early

Assuming you aren't using a full-service moving company, you will need to start packing early. Remember that packing is time-consuming, so you must get it done on time. If you start packing early, you'll have ample time to do it. You'll increase your chances of getting the packing right. You can start packing the items you don't use often and finish with the utensils on the last day.

Insure Your Items

Long-distance moves are quite risky, considering that you'll be moving your items for hundreds of miles. That said, you must ensure that all your valuables are protected from unexpected accidents. Don't rely on the basic insurance coverage provided by moving companies. If possible, pay extra for premium insurance coverage. Doing so protects your furniture, electronics, appliances, and other valuables.

Donate or Sell Some Items

Your current home has so many items that you'll no longer need. So, why would you move into a new home with all that baggage? Besides, transporting so many items can be expensive. That said, you must identify all the things you don't need before the moving day. You can do a garage sale or donate some of the items. At least the garage sale will help you raise extra money you could use during the move.

Hire Long-Distance Movers

Long-distance moves can be quite stressful when you decide to execute them independently. You'll find it challenging to drive a truck for hundreds of miles. Besides, you might spend more than you had anticipated. With all these possibilities, why would you opt for a DIY move? You have better chances of success when you use professional long-distance movers. These movers will handle your move professionally. Moreover, they can manage all the stress involved in long-distance moves much better.

Other tips include:

  • Create a moving day schedule
  • Change your address
  • Move during the off-peak season
