About Me
Long Term Storage Success

After spending years trying to find a great job, I was finally offered the gig of my dreams. It felt like I was walking on a cloud, until they told me that I would have to relocate to halfway around the world. I was really frustrated, so I decided that it might be best to see about renting a long term storage facility. I didn't want to risk dealing with problems stemming from leaving belongings with a friend or family member, so I worked hard to find an excellent storage facility that would work well. I was able to find a facility that offered long-term units, and they really seemed to understand my needs. This blog is all about storing successfully for as long as you need to.

Moving Right Along - Pack And Prepare For An Impending Move Across Town

Andy Lopez

If you have decided to move into a larger apartment that is located several miles from your current apartment, the prospect of transporting your belongings to the new address and ensuring that items remain damage-free may be overwhelming you from time to time. If you have several weeks to complete the move and would like to get a headstart on the transition, use the packing and preparation strategies that follow.

Assess The Contents In Each Room And Dispose Of Items

Before haphazardly packing items or placing possessions in piles, think about how much you have accumulated over the years. It is very common to collect a large amount of items over time and it is likely that you have items in your current apartment that you have forgotten about and that you do not have a use for.

Walk through each room in your residence and visually assess the items that you own. If you see some things that you do not want to bring along with you, write them down in a notebook and make a point of throwing the items away or giving them to someone you know. After making the list, place all of the items in one room in your apartment so that you can easily get rid of the items at a designated time.

Tackle One Area At A Time

After eliminating unwanted items, make plans to pack one room or area in your apartment at a time so that you do not feel defeated or become confused while preparing items. Of course, if there are belongings that you are going to be using right up until the day you move, do not mix these possessions in with other items so that you can readily put your hands on what is needed.

Call a moving company and inquire about packing materials. Many moving companies sell cartons, rolls of foam cushioning, tape, and labels. After placing an order for supplies, pick them up before heading back to your apartment to begin the task of filling, sealing, and labeling cartons.

Keep Detailed Documentation

It can be extremely frustrating to forget what has been packed in specific boxes and to be required to open several boxes to locate items. Do yourself a favor by numbering cartons and creating a list that includes details about the contents of each carton.

Add specific information about how you would like things to be handled or rooms that items will be placed in once your possessions are transported to the new residence. If you are hiring a moving crew to assist with transporting your possessions, update the moving crew about the details that you have written down.
