About Me
Long Term Storage Success

After spending years trying to find a great job, I was finally offered the gig of my dreams. It felt like I was walking on a cloud, until they told me that I would have to relocate to halfway around the world. I was really frustrated, so I decided that it might be best to see about renting a long term storage facility. I didn't want to risk dealing with problems stemming from leaving belongings with a friend or family member, so I worked hard to find an excellent storage facility that would work well. I was able to find a facility that offered long-term units, and they really seemed to understand my needs. This blog is all about storing successfully for as long as you need to.

Tips For A Hot Weather Move

Andy Lopez

Most people prefer to move in summer for obvious reasons – the weather is more likely to be warm and clear. The problem is when it is just too warm. Sometimes moving in the heat can be just as challenging to you, the movers, and your belongings as moving in winter weather. The following tips can help you avoid some common pitfalls.

Tip #1: Prepare a cooling station

Overheating is a real danger, and the consequences of heat exhaustion or heat stroke can be dire. Make sure you have a cool spot where you and the movers can take a break when necessary. Keep a couple of pitchers of water or a store of water bottles ice cold, either in the fridge or in a cooler. Water is best for rehydrating, but electrolyte replacing sports drinks run a close second.

Tip #2: Provide some shade

If you can shield the movers from the worst of the sun as they move between the trunk and your home, you can avoid many heat-related health issues. The simplest way to do this is to provide clearance for the trunk to pull up as closely to the door as possible. You can also use a pop-up canopy or a tarp to create a shaded pathway to the door.

Tip #3: Move heat sensitive items in the morning

For moves that require multiple truck loads, move any items that can be damaged by the heat in the morning when it's cooler. If you are moving everything in one load, load heat sensitive items in the truck last and unload them first. Examples of these items include things like electronics, toiletries, or non-perishable foods. Also, things like the fridge are also included, since you will need this plugged in as soon as possible so any food you bring or purchase doesn't spoil.

Tip #4: Plan an afternoon siesta

When the temperatures are really high you may need to take a break. Check the weather report to see when the heat of the day is, and then plan your move around it accordingly. This two or three hours heat high point may be the best time to plan for a lunch break or to move indoors and work on something like furniture assembly. You can get back to the heavy lifting once the temperature begins to drop a bit.
